Sessions
Work with an agent in the web app, use commands, attach images and choose a model per session
A session is one conversation with an agent. An agent can have many sessions, and they can run at the same time. Each session runs one task at a time.
Start a session
- Open Agents and select an agent.
- Select New session, or send a task when the agent has no sessions.
- Type the task and select Send.
The reply streams into the transcript. It shows the agent's thinking, its tool calls with their status and output, and the answer. The status line shows when the sandbox starts, when the task runs and when context is compacted.
Sessions from chat apps, automations and sub-sessions also appear under Conversations. A sub-session has a Sub-session label.
Steer or stop a running task
While the agent works, you can send another text message. The agent reads it after its current tool calls and continues with your new instruction. Images and commands must wait until the task finishes.
Select Stop to cancel the task in the open session. Other sessions keep running. A stopped task removes the session's container; the workspace files and the conversation stay.
Commands
Type a command in the composer and send it.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/clear | Starts a new conversation with fresh context. The previous conversation stays. |
/compact | Compresses the context of this conversation. It can spend model tokens. The transcript stays. |
Other text that starts with /, such as /api/foo, is sent as a normal message.
Images
Select + and Attach image to add images to a message.
- Up to 4 images per message. A first message can contain only images.
- PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF.
- At most 5 MiB per image. The web app resizes images to at most 2048 px on the long edge before upload.
The selected model must support image input. Chat apps send text only.
Model and thinking level
The picker in the composer sets the model and thinking level of the open session. Agent default follows the default model in the agent's settings. A change applies from the next message. You cannot change it while the session runs a task.
Thinking levels are offered only for models that the catalog marks as
reasoning models. Without a level, the agent uses medium.
Delete a session
Open the session menu and select Delete session. This removes the conversation. Files the agent wrote stay in the workspace. Deleting a session also deletes its sub-sessions.
Each session keeps its own conversation context. In memory-on sessions, the agent can search earlier conversations and use saved facts across sessions. Daily background review can save useful facts automatically; you can also ask the agent to remember a fact. Group conversations have memory off. See Tools and memory.
